Let’s call today’s blog #WorkoutWednesday. I’m back at my desk today after an amazing trip to one of my favorite places on the earth, Seattle, Washington. I was able to enjoy family and friends as well as schedule meetings and dinners to connect with more amazing women in the breast cancer and breast reconstruction community.

I unpacked my week and a half’s worth of luggage as well as my “portable office” after my flight yesterday. I was amazed at how happy I was to set my laptop back up in the office space in my home or as I have fondly named it, “The She Shed”. I missed writing, blogging, researching, sharing and reaching out to the on-line community. But the face to face meetings I had last week were invaluable. There will be blogs written as follow-ups to those experiences.

It was important for me to get some exercise in before I sat at my desk today and knew I would need to stretch out those traveling muscles and get my brain back in writing & researching mode.  I hear a majority of women who have been through breast reconstruction after cancer or prophylactic mastectomy due to a BRCA gene mutation that they are anxious to return to health and exercise. It seems it becomes part of the mêlée that comes with recovery and feeling in control of your body again.

This video is one of my go-to, simple routines to get the blood circulating and the body warmed up. The value of this video has my stamp of approval since it is from Harvard Medical School. These exercises can be done anywhere, anytime. If I find myself getting stoved up due to inactivity and being glued to my computer, I have them book marked as a favorite and I just pull them up and do them. I feel so much better after a quick warm up and moving the body.

I recommend them as simple exercises to begin doing after surgery and thereafter as a quick routine that can easily be done anywhere.  As always, consult your health care team before beginning any exercise after breast reconstruction surgery as these do include simple stretching. You can make modifications to these as needed until they are comfortable to do.

I missed connecting with you all this past week and look forward to hitting the ground running today with more writing and research. In the mean time, get up and move and have a fabulous #WorkoutWednesday!
