How to Join the BC3 Twitter Talk in Five Easy Steps

BC3C is the Breast Cancer Coordinated Care Interdisciplinary Conference being held in Washington, D.C. February 27-29, 2020. This conference includes a wide range of medical specialists who care for breast cancer patients. As an introduction to what the conference will be about, you can join us on January 24, from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM ET to find out more. This blog will tell you how to join the BC3 Twitter Talk in five easy steps.

Step One of Participating in the BC3 Twitter Talk

You will need to have a Twitter account. It’s very easy to open one if you do not have one now. Open Twitter from your computer, phone or tablet. You will then need to type in your phone number or email address in the first text box. After that, set up the password you want to use.

Participating in Twitter Talk is a bit easier from your laptop. Why? They are fast-paced, and the typing is quicker and easier from your computer. Go to https://twitter.com in your computer’s web browser. If you’ve got fast two-finger thumbs, go for it on your phone!

Step Two of Participating in the BC3 Twitter Talk

Hashtags (the symbol “#”) are important to specific Twitter Talks.

The BC3 Twitter Talk will be using the following main hashtag: #BC3Listens! Isn’t that a great one? Because that is exactly why they have asked me to speak at this conference on February 28th. They want to listen to patients who are affected by breast cancer. It is the first time they are having a nonMD speak because they want to hear from us. I am so honored.

Step Three of Participating in the BC3 Twitter Talk

Now that you have signed up for Twitter, you will need to follow the account @BC3C on Twitter. Look for the “search Twitter” area in the upper right-hand corner of your Twitter account. Just type in @BC3C. Once you get to that account, below the beautiful photo of the conference is a blue button that says, “Follow”. Hit the follow button and you’re almost there!

Step Four of Participating in the BC3 Twitter Talk

There are a few rules for Twitter chats. These are taken directly from the BC3C webpage and will be important to remember!

  • Reply directly for 1- on -1 conversations.
  • Be polite and positive during the Twitter chat.
  • Use @BC3C Twitter handle in your tweets
  • Selling of your products during this chat is prohibited.
  • Always include the chat hashtag #BC3Listens in your tweets.

You might want to even have a word document open to simply copy and past the #BC3Listens hashtag for each of your responses if you will be using your computer. The Twitter Talk will pose questions and you can comment on the five questions we will be using or ask your own. We love interaction from participants.

Step Five of Participating in the BC3 Twitter Talk

Now you get to hear the real surprise! The final question of the Twitter Talk will tell you how you can actually attend the conference for one day on February 28. I will be sharing my story about how I became a patient advocate after my own second breast cancer diagnosis at 8:00 AM on February 28th.  If you are in the Washington, D.C. area this is an amazing opportunity for you. Of course, I am pretty excited to meet you there along with the other fantastic medical specialists who will be presenting.

Thank you to the faculty and especially to Dr. David Song, Conference Chair, for this once in a lifetime opportunity for us!
