Ten years. A decade of advocacy, education, community-building, and deeply human connection. As DiepCFoundation marks this milestone, we celebrate not only the work accomplished, but the people who made it possible: patients, surgeons, volunteers, partners, and a global community committed to empowering individuals facing breast cancer and breast reconstruction decisions. This anniversary is a moment to reflect, honor, and recommit ourselves to the mission that started it all: ensuring every patient has access to trustworthy information, compassionate support, and a place to belong.
Our Community Outreach
Over the past ten years, DiepCFoundation has grown into a global community, one that continues to expand in both reach and impact. What began as a small effort to share reliable information about breast reconstruction has evolved into a robust network of more than 18,000 members worldwide across our platforms.
Our private Facebook group, DiepCJourney – Breast Reconstruction after Mastectomy, remains the heart of our community. It is a space where patients can ask questions, share experiences, and find comfort in knowing they are not alone. The group has become a trusted resource for individuals navigating the complexities of breast cancer treatment and reconstruction, offering peer-to-peer support that is both practical and deeply empathetic.
Beyond Facebook, our outreach extends across Instagram, our public DiepCFoundation Facebook page, and LinkedIn, where thousands more engage with educational content, advocacy updates, and stories that illuminate the patient experience. These platforms allow us to meet people where they are; whether they prefer visual learning, community dialogue, or professional insights, ensuring that our message of empowerment reaches as many individuals as possible.
Ten years in, our digital footprint reflects a simple truth: when people are given access to clear information and compassionate community, they feel more confident in their decisions and more supported in their journey.
Volunteers Supporting the Foundation
No nonprofit thrives for a decade without the dedication of volunteers who give their time, energy, and heart to the mission. DiepCFoundation is fortunate to be supported by an extraordinary group of individuals who make our work possible.
Our Facebook administrators play a vital role in maintaining the integrity and safety of our private group. They welcome new members, guide conversations, uphold community standards, and ensure that the space remains supportive and respectful. Their work is often unseen, but its impact is immeasurable.
We are also grateful for our committee members and ambassadors who support the DiepCFoundation Breast Symposium. Their efforts, from planning logistics to welcoming attendees, help create an event that is educational, inclusive, and deeply meaningful. These volunteers embody the spirit of service, showing up year after year to help us deliver high-quality programming that benefits both patients and professionals.
Their commitment reminds us that advocacy is not a solo endeavor. It is a collective effort powered by people who believe in the mission and want to make a difference.
Surgeons Supporting DiepCFoundation
One of the most transformative aspects of DiepCFoundation’s work has been the support of surgeons who generously share their expertise with our community. Over the past decade, countless board-certified breast and plastic surgeons have participated in interviews, contributed to educational content, and offered insights that help patients make informed decisions.
Their contributions enrich our DiepCJourney® Podcast and YouTube Channel. Listeners and viewers can access conversations on breast cancer treatment, reconstruction options, shared decision-making, and emerging innovations in care. These surgeons bring clarity to complex topics, helping patients understand not only the medical aspects of their choices but also the emotional and practical considerations that accompany them.
We are profoundly grateful for their willingness to educate, collaborate, and advocate alongside us. Their voices strengthen our mission and ensure that patients receive information grounded in expertise, compassion, and respect.
Patients Supporting the Foundation
At the heart of DiepCFoundation are the patients, the individuals who bravely share their stories, vulnerabilities, and triumphs so others may feel less alone. Their honesty shapes the soul of our work.
Over the years, patients have contributed written stories, participated in interviews, joined panel discussions, and engaged in community conversations that illuminate the reality of breast reconstruction decision-making. They speak openly about fear, uncertainty, resilience, and hope. They share what they wish they had known, what surprised them, and what ultimately helped them move forward.
These stories are powerful. They remind us that breast reconstruction is not simply a medical decision. It is a deeply personal one, influenced by identity, body image, health, family, and future. When patients share their experiences, they create a ripple effect of support that reaches far beyond themselves. Their courage helps others feel seen, understood, and empowered.
